What data center manager hasn't received tapes
that are incompatible with current drives. Data-Link can do conversations between the
following media types:
Open reel tape |
3480 |
3490e |
3590 |
DLT |
1/4 Data Cartridges |
4mm |
8mm |
No job is too large or too small. Data-Link can even convert all media to a single
format so the data center only has to maintain one type of drive. We can handle all the
above formats in all common densities and compression schemes.
Media Evaluation & Testing
As the correction capabilities of the tape systems increase, increased error levels are
marked by the drive until tape fails, thereby lowering the chances of recovering data in
the event of a tape failure. With ever higher media capacities, the chances of losing
significant amounts of data also increases.
If you know the data center has bad tapes in the library, because of the data errors
reported by the system, we can help by evaluating media for physical defects and testing
media for read/write errors. Removing just a few tapes from a library can eliminate many
problems. Bad tapes can be copied so data is rescued before it can never be recovered.
Tape archives should be periodically tested to ensure that data is intact. While all
data centers have good intentions of random evaluation and testing, many simply lack the
resources to get it done on a regular basis. We can perform this task.
